Located in the broad Animas Valley above Durango, Wonuka Farms is a wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
This beautiful family farm is as scenic as it is historic. Dr. Bedford and his wife, Marie, purchased the property back around 1960 and the Bedford Family has lived there ever since. Currently, Dr. Bedford’s granddaughter and her husband are living on the ranch to help take care of it. The red barn on the property was one of the first buildings in the area in the 1860’s, before the Denver & Rio Grande train laid tracks in the Animas Valley. For many years until the mid 1970’s, there was a fish hatchery located across the Animas River in the most northern part of the east side beach.
The Animas river meanders through the property with 3500’ of accessible riverbank which features wide oxbows, beaches and deep holes. Downed trees provide cover for massive browns and rainbows that traverse these waters. This is a great place to strip streamers or even mouse patterns in the evenings and morning. You can even wade in the am then launch your boat for a nice ½ day float into town. Come check out this great stretch of private water for yourself!
